후원자분들께;

Brief Report of the Nangi Village Project in Nepal

Dear Supporter;
I would like to tell that everything is going fine in Nangi village despite political fighting and Maoists threat. The Maoists do come to the village once in a while and ask for food. They also try to “brain wash” the villagers by enforcing them to listen their speech. So far the Maoists have not killed or abducted anybody from the village.  Right now the school is closed for 30 days for the summer vacation. The school will be opened on July 25.

Until now we got a total of US$1,273.44 in equivalent Nepali currency in our school’s bank account as your support. In this letter, I have included the details of the expense report that was needed to renovate the nursery building. The total cost for the renovation was US$901.06. The cost is mainly the cost for buying building materials and cost for paying skilled labors such as masons and carpenters. The villagers did the menial work. The renovation of the nursery building was completed in June and the children are going to the class there. It is certainly a well-facilitated building for the children. There are 18 children. There will be more children because we have asked the villagers to send their children, who are older than 36 months.  We have hired a new teacher. His salary is $48 a month.

The neighboring villages of Nangi were also interested to start nursery school for their children after they saw our nursery facility. Therefore we had a joint meeting with four schools that are located in the neighborhood of Nangi. We discussed as what we can do to provide better learning environment for the children. They also needed some financial support. Therefore we decided to support $15 per month to each school to improve the learning environment for the nursery age children in their villages. The money will be provided to the schools from the month of July. Thus the monthly operating expenses for the nurseries will be US$108 per month.

The following is the details of the renovation expenses. The amount shown was converted to US dollar at an average exchange rate of US$1 = Nepali Rupee 72.

We will send two teachers from Nangi for three month training in Kathmandu in August. The teachers will get training on early childhood education. After they come back from the training, they will also organized short term training for the nursery teachers of other schools. The total training cost for the two teachers will be about $350.

Our next plan is to start sewing training program for the women in the village. We have planned to buy 5 sewing machines from the money that you will send and start the sewing training program from September. Our rough estimate is that it will cost about US$110 to buy one sewing machine and its accessories. Therefore the total cost to buy 5 sewing machines will be about US$550. We will hire a trainer for the sewing training. The training will be for three months.

We just published a booklet named “Solid Waste Management Manual for Rural Nepal”. Our next step is to provide training for the students and villagers to teach them how to manage the harmful and non-degradable waste such as plastics, and batteries. We will also build pits to bury the non-biodegradable waste and waste collection centers. This is very important because the mountain villages are getting more ugly every year.

Please let me know if you have any questions regarding our village and the projects. Thank you for your support. We appreciate it very much.
