*Environment Liaison Centre International (www.elci.org)– is an international non-governmental, non-profit organisation, established in 1974, with the aim of strengthening communication and co-operation between non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and civil society, providing liaison between NGOs and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), building the capacities of environmental NGOs in developing countries, and encouraging the advisory role of NGOs through the international environmental conventions and organs of the United Nations.
ELCI has a broad global membership of non-governmental and community-based organisation (NGOs, CBOs) in 104 countries working for a healthier environment and improved quality of life. ELCI members work with the ELCI secretariat to share their views, experiences and aspirations on local, national, regional and international levels. As well, ELCI brings the local perspective to
the global environment policy-making foray and encourages the advisory role of NGOs to the bodies of the United Nations. The ELCI Secretariat is based in Nairobi, Kenya.
